I saw on HGTV, Holmes on homes, they insulated the basement walls and floor. But I noticed that it hadn’t been strapped or studded yet. They glued the panels on and taped all corners and seams. It looked like a good way to seal the area. But how would you strap and drywall that? You cant just glue and screw the strapping to the 2” foam can you?
Glue insulation to the wall, tape/foam the seams. You can then stud the wall in front of the foam, or attach furring strips to the walls (through the foam) with a power actuated gun, then attach the drywall. Foam is a perfectly efficient way to insulate and air seal the basement walls.

I own an older home with no insulation. The walls are 4 in deep, but R-15 insulation is only 3 1/2" thick. It does say, on the packaging, it is made for 2X4 construction, but should I put 1/2" Rigid FoamFoam Insulation in addition to the fiberglass batts to make up the difference?
No because if you compress the insulation you will lower the effective R value. The 4" insulation will fluff out to fill the void.

just a simple ice chest, Rigid FoamFoam Insulation, 12 volt blower motor, frozen water bottles & a pringles can. It’s good for about a 15-20 degree tempurature difference.

Just a cheap ice chest air conditioner that I tossed together with some parts that I had laying around. Small ice chest, Rigid FoamFoam Insulation, a couple of frozen 2 liter bottles of water, an old 12 volt boat blower motor, a car battery & a pringles can! It works OK at best & is good for about a 10-15 degree temperature drop. Of course it would have worked much better with a larger cooler & more frozen bottles. I only did it for the fun of it, i could see a larger one being OK for camping in a small trailer but that’s about it + you need to replenish the ice.

On finding foam yourself - Home Depot, Rona, or most well stocked building supply stores:
The pink stuff is called - FOAMULAR® Rigid FoamFoam Insulation (made by Owens Corning).
Also called - Cel-Lok® Rigid Extruded Polystyrene
The blue stuff is called - STYROSPAN™ extruded polystyrene insulation (made by DOW).
Over in the UK:
The yellow type is called - Polyfoam XPS (Site Survivor™) extruded polystyrene insulation
(made by knauf-insulation)
also look for Celotex
Some one commented on where to find it over there but I can’t find it right now.

Karen and Stuart are returning to Canton, Il and looking for a not-so-big house. They are a great couple. Stuart will be setting up a Christian Counseling private practicde. Karen is an RN, and will be working in the area as soon as the right job comes up. The house we inspected is built on a slab foundation. The question of moisture intrusion and heat loss is always a concern in older slab homes, built before Rigid FoamFoam Insulation and plastic moisture barriers. In this house the HVAC ductwork is embedded in the slab. There will always be some energy loss from the slab to the earth below, and transfer of moisture from the earth through the slab to the house. Using a very sensitive moisture meter we were able to find one area one an outside wall where the carpet was quite moist.

Edge-Sweets new ProfileMatic III is designed using Macron Linear Actuators. The machine is entirly constructed of Aluminum and Stainless Steel to resist corosion from the dust and vapors release from high performance rigid urethanes and other insulation materials. The machine can cut pipe insulation products at 400 in/min from Trymer; 100 in/min from FoamGlas; and varying speed from polyisocyanurate (PIR) depending of the density of teh PIR. Additionally, the ProfieMatic III can be configured in many sizes and with many options such as turntables, vaccum tables, and conveyors for loading and unloading. Edge-Sweets has the most advanced nesting software in the world for porcessing pipe insulations and other products that required the use of an Abrasive Fast Wire cutting system.

Before purchasing or renting a house to live in, look carefully at the Construction of the house and the materials with which the house has been built.
Both the Location and the Construction of a house will determine the EMF exposure of a house.
A) House Construction: Walls
The walls of your house are your primary protection from surrounding towers. Materials that provide shielding from EMFs include:
1.Stucco (covering chicken wire)
2.Brick
3.Cement block
4.Stone
5.Metal
Houses that are made of wood should be avoided.
B) House Construction: Insulation
Insulation can offer significant protection for an EMF sensitive individual. Select a foil covered insulation such as foil backed rigid insulation. This may be available in your local hardware store, or through companies that install insulation in houses in your area.
C) House Construction: Doors
Steel doors can help mitigate EMFs from room to room. They can be purchased inexpensively through Home Depot, for example, and can be customized to fit the size of your existing door frames.
D) House Construction: Solar Power
An ideal house for an individual with EMF Sensitivity is one that is solar powered. The power grid is considered to provide “dirty power,” that is, with frequencies above and beyond the 50-60 Hz that the electricity company is supposed to deliver to your house. To the extent that you use solar power, you will reduce any effect from dirty power.
