  1. Yes, I’ve used …
Yes, I’ve used those cups before too and they are great. They seem to have some coating on the outside that makes them more durable.

  2. I got a coffee …
I got a coffee today from McDonald’s and was very surprised at the toughness and durability of the cups they use. That’d be a way to recycle what would normally go in the trash can and may help with any durability concerns.

  3. Ah yes that’s my …
Ah yes that’s my bad, I thought they weren’t recyclable.

  4. Ha ha. No worries. …
Ha ha. No worries. Everyone has their preferences. But what makes you think these aren’t reusable? I’ve used the same cup for many trips and when it gets too banged up, you can recycle it.

  5. I’ve got a plastic …
I’ve got a plastic one from REI that was $3 and weighs 1.3 ounces. I like the idea but for a longer hike I’d go with the plastic one. Plus it’s more “green” to have a reusable one. Please don’t punch me for using that pretentious word :P

  6. I’m afraid to bring …
I’m afraid to bring toilet paper now because I might get it wet. hehe

  7. Randy, you’re not …
Randy, you’re not supposed to take Ralf Malf and Potsy seriously when they say, “sit on it!”

My hero! I’d add foil to the outer cup to make it more wear resistant. p.s. did anyone else notice that Bullwinkle is narrating during hide the pinecone? ;)

  11. Hmm, not werrrry …
Hmm, not werrrry convinced, what i remember is that it wouldnt wash out so easy but we may have different Styrofoam cups here in Norway =)
I will anyway stick with my foldable cup (23 grams)

  12. Well, thats a good …
Well, thats a good point…we should also look into what we ingest from all kinds of stuff…and you say…there are so little amount in it for it to hurt you…but think about if you get a small amount here and one there, it will add up and have effects on our health.

  13. I would not use …
I would not use styrofoam cups for a long-term trip because of bacteria issues, but for a hike thats only a few days, awesome idea!! 0.1 oz? That weighs less than a pube!!! AWESOME!

  14. Jason excellent …
    Jason excellent idea!
I cant stop thinking of decorating the outer cup with florescent duck tape.
Yes it will probably double the weight but it will make it more durable.
And then for thus of us that insist of using them as a chair they will soon discover that the Styrofoam will retain the memory of what it was. ! Memory Styrofoam!
    Great Idea Thanks Jason!

  17. Nope, I gotta admit …
Nope, I gotta admit I have never sat on my mug. (Hey, you sickos out there, no rude comments! OK?)

I’m just engaging in some worst case scenario-izing. You’re a long way from home on the trail, and life out there would stink without a mug. Again, I respect your personal experience, Jason, but I think I’ll just stick w/ a plastic one, myself. It’s the worry-wart in me.

  18. You pack it inside …
You pack it inside your cookpot.

  19. Yes, I have used …
Yes, I have used them many times and never crushed one. Have you actually sat on your mug?

Great idea Jason! I’m not sure I’m up to the complicated embly, but I’ll give it a try!

  24. I think these mugs …
I think these mugs are an excellent addition for the ultra-light backpackers.
For me, I’ll just stick with my plastic one :)

5/5 thanks for sharing this idea!
